Candidate Questionnaire Responses

1)  What makes PEC’s mission meaningful to you, and what interest you about serving on the PEC Board of Directors?

I believe it is truly admirable for an organization like PEC to strive to provide low-cost, safe, and reliable energy to so many people, ensuring both safety and comfort for its members. I am drawn to serve on the PEC Board of Directors because I value being community- and civic-minded, and I want to help preserve the co-op’s culture while supporting its ongoing evolution for the betterment of our members and the organization.

2) What education, skills, strengths or life experiences do you have that would benefit PEC?

With over 30 years of experience as a small business owner, I have developed a range of skills including personal accounting and budgeting. I hold a Director certification from the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association and have been certified by the National Association of Certified Directors. Additionally, I participate in annual continuing education through the Texas Municipal Court Association and am a Texas certified mediator. I have also received certification in cybersecurity from Carnegie Mellon University.

3) What other boards or committees have you served on or leadership positions have you held in the past?

I have served as a municipal judge for over 11 years, including holding the position of presiding judge. In this role, I have gained extensive experience in legal and regulatory matters. Additionally, I have served on the Land Development Committee, where I contributed to planning the future use of land and zoning regulations. These roles have equipped me with valuable skills in leadership, decision-making, and strategic planning, which I believe will benefit the PEC Board of Directors.

4) Are you familiar with the elements of the cooperative business model?

Yes, I am familiar with the elements of the cooperative business model. I have served on the board for six years and have attended multiple training sessions on the intricacies of the cooperative model. These experiences have provided me with a deep understanding of how cooperatives operate and the unique challenges they face.

5) How would you approach working with your fellow PEC Board of Directors to achieve collaboration and consensus?

One of my strongest skills is being a good listener and team player. I am even-tempered and believe that everyone's viewpoint is important. This is why I value having as much input as possible to make the best decisions for the benefit of the organization and its members.
